How To Make A FTP Server and why.

Category: , , Written by Andrew

Ever sitting at your computer wishing that you had that file. Its either on a separate computer or somewhere else? Or you have to give a file to a friend but its multi parts or large? Or (lastly) ever wish you had a central storage or SERVER?

Then FTP is just for you.

I am assuming your on a Windows computer. i am running XP.

First download FileZilla Server on the computer that you want to be the "server".
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=server and install it.

During installation leave everything as the default and at the server screen type 127.0.0.1 for the server and a strong password (aka a password with capitals and numbers.)

Like this

Open up server interface and goto Settings > Users | Click Shared Folder and create some users and passwords and folders they can access.

BAM! Now your server setup!

Now all you have to do is get a client now.

On your client computer download http://filezilla-project.org/download.php

Open FileZilla Client and under host type 127.0.0.1 username type a user you created and then there password. You can leave the port box blank or type 21 and CONNECT.

You should now see folder on the server side.

You are now FTP'ing
